Even though my fellow Americans might not understand the importance of the characters' pasts and relationships with one another as well as what citizens of England were going through in the s, I hope many of them tune in to watch these four episodes that have recently become available to us and that the interest to have the rest of the franchise available for our viewing pleasure increases.
I really hope Shane Meadows or whoever is responsible for digital distribution of this series is reading this. Job well done to all cast and crew.
The movie This Is England and the television series that followed it are incredible. I think it is pretty accessible but if you grew up in punk rock or got called a freak in school, this will really resonate with you.
Not just the fashion and sound track, but also the awful home-life reasons that lead lots of young people to punk and tribal outsider subcultures.
It isn't all fun, this series offers a very real look into the way the the music we love and the subcultures that saved us can be taken over by bigots, jerks and creeps.
Fare warning, this show is intense, it deals with domestic violence, racism, sexual abuse, rape and addiction in very real, horrifying terms.
The survivors are portrayed as very three-dimensional and nuanced, which feels respectful but it is a very heavy show to watch.
I can not rave about this series enough. My one regret is it is not all here. Once you have seen all of This Is England from the original movie through '90 you will care deeply for each character like absent friends.
I admit some of it is hard to watch and often the darker subject matter can be triggering but it is well worth the watch and all the BAFTAs it received.
