This is aimed at teenagers. Which means it's simple, as simple as it gets. It's a nice touch to see strong female characters though even if you can't relate to all their troubles and stipulations.
This movie is a "how it all begins". I haven't read the books this is based on and they probably have a wider reach, more character development and all that, but I can't comment on that.

Like all book adaptations, you expect change. The first half of the movie was okay. Some minor characters were dropped, some minor scenes were axed or combined, and there was some reordering of events.
But, it was still enjoyable seeing a few of the great scenes from the book brought to life. But then the screenplay took a hard turn toward bizarro world and deviated from the book so spectacularly I was pretty much gobsmacked.
I don't know what the writers were thinking, but they just went on a walkabout with the story and characters and pretty much lost the essence of the book.
So, I went from 4 stars to 3 to 2 in about a half hour. In the end, my advice to fans of Ruby Red -- abort, abort, abort!

The English was well done as well. I can hardly wait for the US version of Sapphire Blue to come out. In looking around the web last night I found out that Emerald Green is in post-production.
So eventually we will get all three. I really was disappointed the movie was in German when it clearly stated it was in English, I saw this movie awhile ago really liked it and was excited when I found that I could get it in English, but as it appears no such luck.
It does have the option for English dub and English sub! I'm glad for the English dub. And I really am excited for sapphire blue! Great adaptation to a beloved story!
The young actors playing Gideon and Gwen were very well cast, the tension between the two was palpable. All in all an enjoyable film.
I can't wait for the next one. Movie is great. My daughter was very happy with the movie. She has watched it many times.

I red the book and loved it ok the film missed a couple of characters but I still enjoyed the film and can't wait for for the second film dubbed as well.
Report abuse. So it's lots of fun but not high level stuff. It's really good. After reading the books I really wanted to watch this film and I was not disappointed.
The film is really good it has English audio and subtitles and was delivered when it was expected. High quality German movie with possibility for English subtitles or dubbed!
